Have you just booked your first appointment with one of our Family Lawyers?

Below you will find a helpful list of documents to bring with you to our initial meeting.

  1. Contact Details – A list of names, addresses and contacts of relevant people including yourself, your partner, your partner’s solicitor, and your accountant.
  2. Chronology – Consider making a list of times and dates with a description of what happened over that time. You can include events like important conversations, when you moved in together, when you separated, purchases, texts, emails, arguments, agreements. Ideally, start when you first met, and continue until the present day.
  3. Marriage Certificate – You will need to provide a certified copy of your Marriage Certificate to the Family Court when you apply for a divorce. We can keep the original on file and create a certified copy for you.
  4. Children’s Birth Certificates – If you have your minor children’s birth certificates available, we can keep them on our file as well.
  5. Employment details for each of you
  6. Superannuation information for each of you
  7. Certificates of Title – Please provide details of any property that you, or your partner own, if possible.
  8. Bank Account Statements
  9. Company Documents – This is only relevant if you are director, secretary or shareholder of a company.
  10. Family Trust Information – (if applicable) This includes a Trust Deed, current statements and minutes.
  11. Photos – If you believe that they are relevant to your matter.
  12. Pensions – Please provide details of any benefits or pensions you or your partner may receive.
  13. Debts or Loans – Please provide details of debts and mortgages.
  14. Other Relevant Information and Documents – Please provide details of any previous agreements, court information, pleadings, or statements, between you and your partner.

Feel free to also bring any questions you have about this process or your situation. You are welcome to take notes during our meeting for your reference. We recommend you have a notebook to keep your notes together.

We are here to guide you at every step of the way, and we look forward to seeing you at our initial appointment.
